Eragon

I have a confession to make, I've never read Eragon 1 or 2. Honestly I didn't like the cover work, too childish. A fact which makes it ironic that I own the entire Harry Potter series (and enjoy all of the movies immensely), but there you go... Well, it seems I'm going to have to reevaluate my position on the books after seeing the trailer for "Eragon" on Apple Trailers.

I enjoyed Reign of Fire, but I couldn't get past some of it's weaker plot points, even if my favorite actor (Christian Bale) was the main character.

The Lord of The Rings trilogy was, to put it nicely, dry. The fight scenes were epic in scale and masterfully executed, but the story itself was as dry and uninspiring as when Tolken himself wrote it.

And then there's Narnia, another children's favorite that I'm told is actually more adult in contexts and violence than the books... but still too bloodless for my tastes.

Eragon however, seems like it's got everything I like and none of the bad. It has dragons (because I love dragons), a good coming of age story, war, violence, bloodshed, and skillfully acted villains. From what I can see the special effects are top notch and if the goosebumps I got while watching the trailer are any indication so is the story. I like my stories gritty and dark, and Eragon seems to fit the bill. Don't believe me or the vid clips on this post? Go check out the trailer for yourself.
